Pompeii by pinguino
Pompeii
I did this painting on a cabinet on commission for a book coming out next year. Will post more details about it when it's released. This is a huge departure from my usual style. It's supposed to replicate how a cabinet would have been painting in Pompeii. It was on display at the International Puzzle Party in London in 2014.

Quick trip to winter..

Tue Feb 24, 2015, 6:11 PM

Last week, my boyfriend and I flew to Utah to watch his dad get a promotion at a University. It was a pretty fantastic event, and was cool to see a part of his life we hadn't been exposed to before. I played sushi chef afterwards at a dinner at his home, and even made blue riceballs of their school mascot, a bull.

The next day, I taught four comic book classes at the Bear River Charter school. Basically, I taught 5-8th graders the basics of making minicomics, and the mechanics of comic book storytelling. Some were intrigued that you could have a career in art- the community they lived in didn't have many professional artists. Being exposed to art every day, it surprised me to hear that.

On Saturday, I watched the blue skies drop tiny slowflakes, and within a couple hours, Utah looked like a Christmas card. It's been pretty summer-like in Los Angeles lately, so the contrast was pretty surreal. We drove into the mountains and went sledding, and built a snowladycatthing. Super fun!

Update and Jobs for Artists

Tue Feb 10, 2015, 7:57 AM

Life has been awesome but incredibly busy. I just bought a Hello Kitty sewing machine and have been teaching myself to sew. My friend's app that has my art in it comes out in about a month, so I've been crash-coursing mobile design and animation. Everyone's been needing headshots and videos lately, and video is also very new to me. Bought a boom mic and LED panel light for that. Also, working on a movie prop for another friend. So many things.

btw anyone watching Arrow? That and Dragon Age are what I'm addicted to lately.

bQw  needs scifi artists for his first book! it sounds rad and i wish i had time to work on it :) but here's details for you to check out:

Call for Submissions for a Book CoverToday I officially passed the halfway point of my first real effort in writing a long-form story and I decided that it was time to start putting together the more ancillary things like a blurb, pricing line editors,
And cover art.
And there's no better place than dA to do that, so...
It's a hard SciFi story dealing with interdimensionality so surrealism is okay.  The main protagonist is a 20s Asian female, physics PhD, science journalist. A secondary protagonist is a middle-aged African American male, photojournalist. Oh, and the other dimension has giant floating Portuguese Man O War jellyfish. And less gravity.
If you are interested and want to give it a shot, please message me what you require for compensation (money, credits, etc...). Please bear in mind that this is entirely the independent production of a slightly twisted Elementary school teacher.
Thanks!

bQw is an oldschool dA user and used to be a gallery mod. I'm super excited to check out his project.

Additionally, my friend stew is looking for talented 2d animators and character designers for his movie project. professional-only, but if you show me a reel in a note i can pass his info along to you. He worked at Universal for ages and is a great guy!

Helping a friend with a model hunt- need someone who'd be available to hand out flyers or stickers March 2-4 at a tradeshow. You'd be wearing a branded t-shirt and bunny ears. Drop me a msg if you're interested and we can negotiate a price.
