health update and raves!

friday morning i met with my chiropractor at Elements Total Health and he went over my MRI with me. I'd gotten in a car accident a few years ago and had a spinal fusion done, which is back surgery where they put a plastic box screwed into a couple bones and grow new bone over it so it doesn't move. They did that because one of my spine discs was sliding into the other.

Over the past two months I've had a lot of problems with the nerves in my legs, random fierce spasms and the like, shooting pain, and a lot of back pain overall. So that's why I got MRI'ed. Luckily, none of the screws are probably loose. They haven't looked at the scans in super detail, but he wanted to make sure nothing was super bad. One bone might be touching the other one or close to it, and part of it is sticking out 2mm. They're gonna try to fix it with physical therapy and acupuncture. If that doesn't work the only other thing is surgery, which i realllllly don't want to do.. and my doctors don't want to have me do either.

Anyways..

Last night, me and dave went to Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC), which is a massive multi-stage night-time outdoor rave in LA. We had VIP tix which granted us free water, vodka, monster energy drinks, and the fanciest portapotties ive ever seen, complete with bitchy rich girls hanging out in the bathroom complaining about boys. If you took Dave's ipod and brought all the music to life on GINORMOUS speakers, and put a bunch of carnival rides scattered around the venue, and lasers, you'd have EDC. It was crazy amounts of fun. I was somewhat good and stuck to one carnival ride (swings) and didn't jump (but danced), and survived to about the start of Boyz Noise's set, took off to rest for 30mins, and came back.

My first rave was in 1995, which makes me more oldschool than 98% of the people probably at that party. I went to massives a lot the first handful of years I partied, and even used to sell my comic books at raves. Around 1999 I started throwing my own events, and got into the underground desert scene, then a bit more with the Burning Man community. But the past year, I've been going to massives a lot more, and EDC is definately the most fun I've had at a party in probably ten years. (The last party I said that about was a happyhardcore reunion event I was at last year in NY)

It is really refreshing to see kids all candy'ed all, dressed in bright colors and excited about the music. For years, people said that raves would die, and while there might not be 10-20parties a weekend in LA anymore, the community is definately still thriving. And I'm really glad that I still go to events, and am just as excited to make an outfit and grab friends together, and dance under the stars under booming techno and bright lights.

Anyways. This is who Im seeing (initials are the stage names):
